Hawizeh Marshes
The Hawizeh Marshes are a vast wetland area located in southeastern Iraq and southwestern Iran. Covering approximately 1,000 square kilometers, these marshes are part of the larger Mesopotamian Marshes ecosystem. They are known for their rich biodiversity, including various species of birds, fish, and plants, making them an important habitat for wildlife.
These marshes play a crucial role in the local environment by providing water filtration and flood control. They also support the livelihoods of local communities, particularly the Ma'dan people, who have traditionally relied on fishing and agriculture in this unique landscape.
