Hawaiian Silversword
The Hawaiian Silversword, known scientifically as *Argyroxiphium sandwicense*, is a unique plant native to the Hawaiian Islands. It is characterized by its rosette of silvery, sword-shaped leaves that can grow up to three feet long. This plant thrives in high-altitude volcanic areas, particularly on the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
This remarkable species is part of the Asteraceae family and can take years to mature. After a long growth period, it produces a tall flower stalk covered in bright yellow flowers. Unfortunately, the Hawaiian Silversword is considered endangered due to habitat loss and invasive species.
