Silversword
The Silversword is a unique plant native to the Hawaiian Islands, particularly found on the slopes of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. It belongs to the Asteraceae family and is known for its striking rosette of silvery, sword-shaped leaves. This plant can grow up to three feet tall and produces beautiful purple flowers, typically blooming after several years of growth.
Silverswords are adapted to harsh volcanic environments and can survive in poor soil conditions. They are considered an endangered species due to habitat loss and climate change. Conservation efforts are in place to protect this iconic symbol of Hawaii's unique flora.
