Hashima Island
Hashima Island, also known as Gunkanjima or "Battleship Island," is a small, abandoned island located off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan. Once a thriving coal mining community, it was home to thousands of workers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The island is characterized by its dense concrete buildings and unique shape, resembling a battleship.
After the coal mines closed in 1974, the island was deserted, leading to its current status as a ghost town. Today, Hashima Island is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors interested in its history and the remnants of its industrial past.
