Gunkanjima
Gunkanjima, also known as Hashima Island, is a small, abandoned island located off the coast of Nagasaki, Japan. It was once a thriving coal mining community, housing thousands of workers in its high-rise buildings. The island earned its nickname, which means "Battleship Island," due to its shape resembling a battleship.
In the 1970s, as coal mining declined, Gunkanjima was deserted, leaving behind crumbling structures and a haunting atmosphere. Today, it is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors interested in its history and eerie ruins. The island is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized for its industrial heritage.
