Harmonist Society
The Harmonist Society was a religious and communal group founded in the early 19th century by George Rapp in the United States. The society aimed to create a utopian community based on shared beliefs, communal living, and a strict moral code. Members practiced celibacy and worked together in agriculture and crafts, emphasizing harmony and cooperation.
The society established several settlements, the most notable being in Harmony, Pennsylvania, and later in New Harmony, Indiana. Although the community eventually dissolved in the 1820s, its ideals influenced later social movements and experiments in communal living, leaving a lasting legacy in American history.
