George Rapp
George Rapp was a German-American religious leader and founder of the Harmony Society, a communal society that practiced a form of Christianity known as the Rappites. Born in 1757 in Germany, he emigrated to the United States in 1803, seeking religious freedom and a place to establish his community.
Under Rapp's leadership, the Harmony Society thrived in Pennsylvania, where members lived a communal lifestyle, sharing property and resources. The society later moved to New Harmony, Indiana, in 1825, but eventually dissolved in the 1840s. Rapp's influence on communal living and religious practices remains a notable part of American history.
