Hannibal Hamlin
Hannibal Hamlin was an American politician who served as the 15th Vice President of the United States from 1861 to 1865 under President Abraham Lincoln. Born on August 27, 1809, in Paris, Maine, he was a member of the Republican Party and played a significant role in the early years of the Civil War.
Before becoming Vice President, Hamlin was a U.S. Senator from Maine and a strong opponent of the expansion of slavery. After his vice presidency, he continued to be active in politics, serving as the U.S. Minister to Spain from 1881 to 1882. He passed away on July 4, 1891.
