Halomethane
Halomethanes are a group of organic compounds that consist of a methane molecule where one or more hydrogen atoms are replaced by halogen atoms, such as fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine. These compounds are often used in various industrial applications, including refrigeration, solvents, and as intermediates in chemical synthesis.
Some common examples of halomethanes include chloroform, bromoform, and dichloromethane. While they have useful properties, many halomethanes are also known to be harmful to the environment and human health, particularly as they can contribute to ozone depletion and may be toxic when inhaled or ingested.
