H.W.L. Poonja
H.W.L. Poonja, also known as Papaji, was an Indian spiritual teacher born on October 13, 1910, in Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. He is best known for his teachings on non-duality and self-inquiry, drawing from the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta. Poonja became a prominent figure in the spiritual community after meeting his own teacher, Ramana Maharshi, in the 1940s.
Poonja's teachings emphasize the importance of direct experience and self-realization, encouraging seekers to look within themselves for truth. He attracted many followers, including notable figures like Eckhart Tolle and Mooji, and held retreats in India and around the world. Poonja passed away on September 6, 1997, but his teachings continue to inspire many.
