Guyana Elections Commission
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is an independent body responsible for overseeing and conducting elections in Guyana. Established in 2000, its main duties include managing the electoral process, ensuring fair and transparent elections, and maintaining the integrity of the voter registration system.
GECOM is composed of a Chairman and several commissioners, who are appointed by the President and the opposition. The commission plays a crucial role in organizing general and local elections, as well as referenda, ensuring that the democratic rights of citizens are upheld throughout the electoral process.
