Gurrindji
The Gurrindji are an Indigenous Australian people from the Northern Territory, primarily associated with the Victoria River District. They have a rich cultural heritage and a deep connection to their land, which is central to their identity and traditions. The Gurrindji speak the Gurrindji language, which is part of the Ngumbin language family.
In the 1960s, the Gurrindji gained national attention during the Wave Hill walk-off, a significant protest against poor working conditions and land rights. This event marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for Indigenous land rights in Australia, leading to greater recognition of the Gurrindji's claims to their ancestral lands.
