Guiana cock-of-the-rock
The Guiana cock-of-the-rock is a striking bird found in the rainforests of South America, particularly in Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. Males are known for their vibrant orange plumage and distinctive fan-shaped crest, which they use to attract females during mating displays. They typically inhabit lowland forests and are often seen near rocky outcrops.
These birds are primarily frugivorous, feeding on fruits, but they also consume insects and small invertebrates. The Guiana cock-of-the-rock is a member of the family Cotingidae and is known for its unique courtship rituals, where males gather in leks to compete for the attention of females.
