Cotingidae
Cotingidae, commonly known as cotingas, is a family of birds found primarily in tropical rainforests of Central and South America. This family includes around 60 species, characterized by their vibrant plumage and unique vocalizations. Cotingas are often elusive and are known for their diverse diets, which can include fruits, insects, and small vertebrates.
Many cotingas exhibit sexual dimorphism, where males and females have different appearances. Some species, like the Andean Cock-of-the-rock, are famous for their elaborate courtship displays. Cotingas play an important role in their ecosystems, particularly in seed dispersal, contributing to the health of their forest habitats.
