Guadiamar River
The Guadiamar River is a river located in southern Spain, primarily flowing through the province of Seville. It is approximately 90 kilometers long and serves as a tributary to the Guadalquivir River. The river is known for its natural beauty and ecological significance, supporting various plant and animal species in the surrounding areas.
In 1998, the Guadiamar River gained attention due to an environmental disaster when a toxic spill from the Aznalcóllar mine contaminated its waters. This incident led to significant ecological damage and prompted restoration efforts to rehabilitate the river and its ecosystem. Today, the river is part of the Guadiamar Green Corridor, a protected area aimed at preserving its natural environment.
