GroEL-GroES
GroEL-GroES is a molecular chaperone complex found in bacteria that assists in the proper folding of proteins. It consists of two main components: GroEL, a cylindrical protein that provides a chamber for folding, and GroES, a smaller protein that acts as a lid. Together, they create an environment that helps misfolded proteins achieve their correct structure.
The GroEL-GroES complex works by binding to unfolded or partially folded proteins, encapsulating them within the GroEL chamber. This process prevents aggregation and allows the proteins to fold correctly, which is essential for their function in cellular processes.
