Grey Phalarope
The Grey Phalarope is a small wading bird known for its distinctive gray plumage and slender body. It typically measures about 7 to 8 inches in length and has a unique feeding behavior, often spinning in circles on the water's surface to create a vortex that brings small invertebrates to the surface. This bird is commonly found in coastal areas and wetlands during migration.
During the breeding season, the Grey Phalarope migrates to the Arctic regions, where it nests on the ground. Unlike many other bird species, females are more colorful and take the lead in courtship. After laying eggs, they often leave the males to incubate and care for the young, showcasing a unique reproductive strategy among birds.
