Grey Crowned Crane
The Grey Crowned Crane is a large bird native to eastern and southern Africa. It is easily recognized by its striking grey plumage, long legs, and a distinctive crown of golden feathers on its head. These cranes typically inhabit wetlands, grasslands, and savannas, where they feed on seeds, insects, and small animals.
These birds are known for their elaborate courtship dances, which involve jumping and flapping their wings. The Grey Crowned Crane is also the national bird of Uganda and is considered a symbol of grace and beauty. Unfortunately, it faces threats from habitat loss and poaching, leading to a decline in its population.
