The Whooping Crane is a large, elegant bird known for its striking white plumage and long legs. Standing about 5 feet tall, it has a wingspan of up to 7.5 feet. These cranes are primarily found in wetlands and are known for their distinctive, loud whooping calls. They are one of the tallest flying birds in North America.
Once on the brink of extinction, the Whooping Crane population has slowly increased due to conservation efforts. They primarily feed on small fish, crustaceans, and plants. Their breeding grounds are mainly located in Canada, while they migrate to Texas for the winter.
