Great Synagogue of Aleppo
The Great Synagogue of Aleppo, also known as the Qahal Qadosh or Aleppo Synagogue, was a historic Jewish place of worship located in the city of Aleppo, Syria. It was one of the oldest synagogues in the world, dating back to the 8th century. The synagogue served as a central hub for the Jewish community in Aleppo, which thrived for centuries.
In 1947, the synagogue was severely damaged during riots, and it was later destroyed in 2012 during the Syrian Civil War. The loss of the Great Synagogue of Aleppo marked a significant cultural and historical tragedy for the Jewish heritage in the region, as it housed many important religious artifacts and texts.
