Great Northern Expedition
The Great Northern Expedition was a significant exploration mission conducted by the Russian Empire from 1733 to 1743. Led by explorers such as Vitus Bering and Aleksei Chirikov, the expedition aimed to map the northern coast of Siberia and explore the waters of the Bering Sea. It provided valuable information about the geography, natural resources, and indigenous peoples of the region.
The expedition consisted of several ships and a large crew, facing harsh weather and challenging conditions. It resulted in the discovery of new lands, including parts of Alaska, and laid the groundwork for future Russian exploration and colonization in North America.
