Russian America
"Russian America" refers to the territory in North America that was colonized by the Russian Empire from the late 18th century until the mid-19th century. This area primarily included parts of present-day Alaska, where Russian explorers and settlers established trading posts and engaged in fur trading, particularly with sea otters.
The Russian presence in America began to decline after the sale of Alaska to the United States in 1867. The region's economic viability diminished, leading to the eventual abandonment of many Russian settlements. Today, the legacy of Russian America can still be seen in some cultural influences and historical sites throughout Alaska.
