Grangers
The Grangers were members of the Patrons of Husbandry, an organization founded in 1867 to support farmers in the United States. They aimed to promote agricultural education, improve farming techniques, and advocate for farmers' rights. The Grange movement sought to unite farmers to address common challenges, such as unfair pricing and monopolistic practices by railroads and grain elevator operators.
As the movement grew, Grangers established cooperatives to buy supplies and sell crops collectively, helping to reduce costs and increase profits. They also engaged in political activities, pushing for reforms like regulation of railroad rates and the establishment of state agricultural colleges.
