Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde
Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde was the ruling Grand Duchess of Luxembourg from 1912 until her abdication in 1919. Born on February 14, 1894, she was the daughter of Grand Duke Wilhelm IV and Grand Duchess Maria Anna. Her reign was marked by the challenges of World War I, during which she worked to support her people and maintain the duchy's neutrality.
Marie-Adélaïde was the first woman to hold the title of Grand Duchess in Luxembourg. After the war, she faced political pressure and public discontent, leading to her decision to abdicate in favor of her sister, Princess Charlotte, in 1919. She later lived in exile in Germany and Switzerland.
