Governor-General of Canada
The Governor-General of Canada is the representative of the monarch in Canada, currently King Charles III. This position is appointed by the monarch on the advice of the Prime Minister of Canada and serves as the head of state in Canada. The Governor-General performs various ceremonial duties, such as the opening of Parliament and the granting of royal assent to legislation.
In addition to ceremonial roles, the Governor-General also has constitutional responsibilities, including the ability to summon and dissolve Parliament. The office is located in Rideau Hall in Ottawa, and the Governor-General plays a key role in promoting national unity and Canadian identity.
