Government of the Irish Free State
The Government of the Irish Free State was established in 1922 following the Anglo-Irish Treaty, which ended the Irish War of Independence. It marked the transition of Ireland from a British dominion to a self-governing entity, although it remained part of the British Commonwealth. The government was structured with a parliamentary system, featuring a Dáil Éireann (House of Representatives) and a Seanad Éireann (Senate).
The Irish Free State had its own constitution, which provided for a President of the Executive Council, similar to a prime minister. Over time, the government faced challenges, including economic difficulties and political tensions, leading to significant changes in its structure and governance, ultimately culminating in the establishment of the Republic of Ireland in 1949.
