Gorilla beringei
Gorilla beringei is a species of gorilla found in the mountainous forests of central Africa. It is divided into two subspecies: the Eastern Gorilla and the Mountain Gorilla. These primates are known for their large size, with males weighing up to 440 pounds, and their strong social structures, living in groups led by a dominant male.
Mountain gorillas primarily inhabit the Virunga Mountains and are critically endangered due to habitat loss and poaching. They are herbivorous, feeding on leaves, stems, and fruits. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect their populations and habitats, highlighting their importance in biodiversity.
