Goliad Massacre
The Goliad Massacre occurred on March 27, 1836, during the Texas Revolution. After the defeat at the Battle of Coleto, Texian forces, led by James Fannin, surrendered to the Mexican army under General José de Urrea. The Texians were taken prisoner and later executed on orders from General Santa Anna, despite promises of safety.
This event was a significant turning point in the conflict, galvanizing Texian resistance against Mexican rule. The massacre highlighted the brutal nature of the war and became a rallying cry for Texians, contributing to their eventual victory at the Battle of San Jacinto.
