Golden-cheeked Warbler
The Golden-cheeked Warbler is a small songbird native to the central Texas region of the United States. It is easily recognized by its striking black and yellow plumage, with a distinctive golden patch on its cheek. This bird primarily inhabits juniper-oak woodlands, where it builds its nests in Ashe juniper trees.
This species is migratory, spending winters in Mexico and returning to Texas in the spring for breeding. The Golden-cheeked Warbler is considered endangered due to habitat loss from urban development and changes in land use. Conservation efforts are in place to protect its remaining habitats.
