Godefroy de Bouillon
Godefroy de Bouillon was a medieval knight and a prominent leader during the First Crusade, which began in 1096. Born around 1060 in the region of Bouillon in present-day Belgium, he became known for his bravery and military skills. Godefroy played a crucial role in the capture of Jerusalem in 1099 and was offered the title of king, but he declined, choosing instead to be known as the Defender of the Holy Sepulchre.
After the conquest of Jerusalem, Godefroy established himself as one of the first rulers of the newly formed Kingdom of Jerusalem. His leadership and commitment to the Christian cause made him a respected figure among his peers. Godefroy de Bouillon died in 1100, leaving a legacy as a key figure in the history of the Crusades.
