Glow-worms
Glow-worms are bioluminescent larvae of certain beetles, primarily belonging to the family Lampyridae. They emit a soft, greenish light to attract prey, such as small insects. This light is produced through a chemical reaction in their bodies, involving a substance called luciferin.
These fascinating creatures are commonly found in damp, dark environments like caves and forests. The glow serves not only to lure food but also to deter predators. Glow-worms play a vital role in their ecosystems, contributing to the balance of insect populations in their habitats.
