Lampyridae
Lampyridae, commonly known as fireflies or lightning bugs, are a family of insects in the order Coleoptera. They are best known for their ability to produce light through a chemical reaction in their bodies, a phenomenon called bioluminescence. This light is primarily used for communication, especially during mating rituals.
Fireflies are typically found in warm, humid environments, often near water sources. They have a distinct appearance, with soft bodies and often brightly colored or patterned exoskeletons. The larvae of Lampyridae are also bioluminescent and play a role in the ecosystem as predators of other insects.
