Glareolidae
The family Glareolidae, commonly known as pratincoles and coursers, consists of small to medium-sized birds found primarily in open habitats such as grasslands and wetlands. These birds are characterized by their long wings, slender bodies, and short tails, which enable them to fly swiftly. They are often seen foraging for insects and small invertebrates on the ground.
Pratincoles are known for their unique behavior of hunting insects in flight, while coursers tend to run on the ground to catch their prey. Both groups exhibit a range of colors, often featuring earthy tones that help them blend into their surroundings. Their distribution spans across various regions, including parts of Africa, Asia, and Europe.
