Georgy Dobrovolski
Georgy Dobrovolski was a Soviet cosmonaut born on January 1, 1928. He is best known for his role in the Soyuz 11 mission, which took place in June 1971. Dobrovolski, along with his crewmates, spent 23 days in space aboard the Salyut 1 space station, conducting scientific experiments and tests.
Tragically, Dobrovolski and his crew died on June 30, 1971, during re-entry when a cabin depressurization occurred. Their sacrifice highlighted the risks of space exploration and led to improvements in safety protocols for future missions. Dobrovolski is remembered as a pioneer in the field of human spaceflight.
