George William Gordon
George William Gordon was a Jamaican politician and a prominent figure in the 1865 Morant Bay Rebellion. Born in 1820, he was a mixed-race landowner and a member of the House of Assembly in Jamaica. Gordon advocated for the rights of the poor and marginalized, particularly the African-descended population, and was known for his outspoken criticism of colonial policies.
His activism led to his arrest and execution by the British colonial authorities, which sparked outrage and further unrest in Jamaica. Gordon's legacy is remembered as a symbol of resistance against colonial oppression and a champion for social justice in the Caribbean.
