George Washington Vanderbilt I was an American businessman and member of the prominent Vanderbilt family, born on November 14, 1862. He is best known for constructing the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, which is the largest privately-owned home in the United States. The estate, completed in 1895, showcases a blend of French château architecture and stunning gardens designed by Frederick Law Olmsted.
Vanderbilt was also a passionate supporter of the arts and conservation. He played a significant role in the development of the Blue Ridge Parkway and was involved in various philanthropic efforts.
