George Romney
George Romney was an American businessman and politician, born on July 8, 1907, in Mexico. He served as the Governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969 and was known for his progressive policies, including efforts in education and civil rights. Before entering politics, he was the president of the American Motors Corporation, where he helped develop popular car models.
In 1968, George Romney ran for the Republican nomination for President of the United States, but his campaign struggled to gain traction. He is often remembered for his moderate views and his emphasis on social issues, which set him apart from many of his contemporaries in the Republican Party.
