George Catlin
George Catlin was an American painter and writer born in 1796. He is best known for his portraits of Native American tribes and their cultures during the 1830s. Catlin traveled extensively across the United States, documenting the lives and traditions of various tribes, which he believed were at risk of disappearing due to westward expansion.
In addition to his artwork, Catlin created a traveling exhibition called the Indian Gallery, showcasing his paintings and artifacts. His work played a significant role in raising awareness about Native American cultures and contributed to the preservation of their history through art.
