Gelada baboon
The Gelada baboon is a unique primate found only in the highlands of Ethiopia. It is known for its distinctive red chest patch and long, flowing hair. Unlike other baboons, Geladas primarily feed on grass, using their specialized teeth to graze. They live in large social groups called troops, which can consist of up to 100 individuals.
These baboons are highly social animals, often seen engaging in grooming and vocal communication. Their complex social structure is characterized by strong bonds between family members. Geladas are also known for their expressive faces and behaviors, making them fascinating subjects for researchers studying primate behavior.
