Gastroscope
A gastroscope is a medical instrument used to examine the interior of the stomach and the upper part of the small intestine. It is a flexible tube equipped with a light and camera, allowing doctors to visualize the lining of these organs. This procedure, known as gastroscopy, helps diagnose conditions such as ulcers, inflammation, and tumors.
During a gastroscopy, the patient is usually sedated for comfort. The gastroscope is gently inserted through the mouth and guided down the esophagus into the stomach. This minimally invasive procedure can also be used to take biopsies or remove abnormal growths, aiding in effective treatment planning.
