Colonoscope
A colonoscope is a flexible, tube-like instrument used by doctors to examine the inner lining of the large intestine, or colon. It has a light and a camera at its tip, allowing for clear images of the colon's surface. This procedure, known as a colonoscopy, helps detect abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, or signs of colorectal cancer.
During a colonoscopy, the patient is usually sedated for comfort. The colonoscope is inserted through the rectum and advanced through the colon. If necessary, doctors can also take biopsies or remove polyps during the procedure, making it an important tool for preventive health care.
