Gastric Function
Gastric function refers to the processes that occur in the stomach to break down food. When food enters the stomach, it is mixed with gastric juices, which contain hydrochloric acid and digestive enzymes. These substances help to dissolve food and kill harmful bacteria, making it easier for the body to absorb nutrients.
The stomach also plays a role in regulating the release of food into the small intestine. Once the food is sufficiently broken down into a semi-liquid form called chyme, it is gradually released through the pyloric sphincter into the small intestine for further digestion and nutrient absorption.
