Gangotri is a significant pilgrimage site located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. It is known as the source of the Ganges River, one of the holiest rivers in Hinduism. The town is situated at an altitude of about 3,042 meters (9,943 feet) and is surrounded by stunning mountain landscapes.
The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to the goddess Ganga, attracts thousands of devotees each year. The temple is usually open from May to November, coinciding with the summer months when the region is accessible. The area is also a starting point for treks to the Gaumukh Glacier, the actual source of the river.
