Gaumukh Glacier
The Gaumukh Glacier is located in the Indian Himalayas and is the source of the Bhagirathi River. It sits at an elevation of about 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) and is part of the Gangotri Glacier system. The glacier is known for its stunning views and is a popular trekking destination for adventure enthusiasts.
The name "Gaumukh" translates to "mouth of a cow," which refers to the glacier's shape resembling a cow's mouth. It is an important site for both environmental studies and Hindu pilgrimage, as it is considered sacred in Hinduism and is closely associated with the Ganges River.
