Galungan
Galungan is a significant Hindu festival celebrated in Bali, Indonesia, marking the victory of dharma (good) over adharma (evil). It occurs every 210 days in the Balinese calendar and lasts for ten days, culminating in the celebration of Kuningan. During this time, families honor their ancestors and deities by decorating their homes with penjor (bamboo poles) and offering traditional foods.
The festival is characterized by various rituals, including prayers at temples and family gatherings. Balinese people believe that during Galungan, the spirits of their ancestors return to the earthly realm, making it a time for reflection, gratitude, and community bonding.
