Gallia Cisalpina
Gallia Cisalpina was a region in ancient Italy that encompassed parts of northern Italy, primarily inhabited by the Celts. It was situated to the south of the Alps and included areas such as Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and parts of Veneto. The region was significant during the Roman Republic, as it was one of the first areas outside of Italy to be conquered by the Romans.
The term "Cisalpina" means "this side of the Alps," distinguishing it from Gallia Transalpina, which referred to the territories across the Alps in modern-day France. Julius Caesar played a crucial role in the Romanization of Gallia Cisalpina, integrating it into the Roman Empire and promoting its development.
