Galax
Galax is a genus of flowering plants in the family Diapensiaceae, commonly known as the galax or gathering plant. These perennial herbs are native to the eastern United States, particularly in the Appalachian region. They are characterized by their glossy, evergreen leaves and small, white to pink flowers that bloom in spring.
The most well-known species is Galax urceolata, often used in floral arrangements and as ground cover. Galax plants thrive in shaded, moist environments, typically found in woodlands. They play a role in local ecosystems by providing habitat and food for various wildlife species.
