Gabrielino people
The Gabrielino people, also known as the Tongva, are a Native American tribe originally from the southern California region, particularly around present-day Los Angeles and the Channel Islands. They were known for their rich culture, which included fishing, hunting, and gathering, as well as intricate basket weaving and pottery.
Historically, the Gabrielino lived in villages and spoke the Gabrielino language, a member of the Uto-Aztecan language family. Their society was organized into clans, and they engaged in trade with neighboring tribes. Today, the Gabrielino people continue to preserve their heritage and advocate for recognition and rights as a distinct tribe.
