Gabrielino Indians
The Gabrielino Indians, also known as the Tongva, are a Native American tribe originally from the southern California region, particularly around present-day Los Angeles and the Channel Islands. They lived in small villages and relied on fishing, hunting, and gathering for their sustenance. Their society was organized into clans, each with its own leader and territory.
The Gabrielino people had a rich cultural heritage, including traditional crafts, music, and storytelling. They spoke the Gabrielino language, which is part of the Uto-Aztecan language family. Today, efforts are being made to preserve their history and culture, as well as to gain recognition as a federally recognized tribe.
