Fungal Meningitis
Fungal meningitis is a rare but serious infection that affects the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord, known as the meninges. It is caused by fungi, which can enter the body through the lungs or bloodstream and eventually reach the central nervous system. Symptoms may include fever, headache, stiff neck, and sensitivity to light.
This condition is more common in people with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or those taking certain medications. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial, as fungal meningitis can lead to severe complications or even death if not addressed promptly.
